Salon des Refuses Opening Night at Studio BRUT

In 1863 the Paris Salon rejected thousands of paintings. So the rejected artists hung their own show down the road and called it the Salon des Refuses. It turned out to contain the future of art. We are doing ours in Swindon.

Studio BRUT's first group exhibition brings together work that got turned down somewhere else: the open call that said no, the gallery that never replied, the sculpture that went boom in the kiln, the piece the artist never showed anybody. Painting, drawing, sculpture, textile, print, photography and digital work, all made by hand by people, no AI.

Every work hangs next to the story of its rejection, written by the artist. The rejection is not the embarrassing bit to leave out. It is the exhibition.

One night only: Friday 4 December, 7 to 9pm. Come and meet the artists at Studio BRUT, Arclite House, Century Road, Peatmoor, Swindon SN5 5YN. Free parking in front of the building. Entry is free, RSVP at https://studiobrut.art/salon-rsvp/.
